POLICE HEADQUARTERS REOPENS IN SUMMER CAPITAL

Following its closure in the winter capital (Jammu), for the biannual move on April 28, the J&K Police Headquarters reopened in the summer capital (Srinagar) on May 09.

On his arrival at the PHQ, Shri Gopal Sharma, Director General of police, J&K, was presented "General Salute" by a contingent of J&K Armed police, attired in ceremonial dress, amidst notes of bugles. A large number of senior police officers including Shri P.S.Gill, ADGP Armed, Shri Radha Vinod Raju, ADGP, Headquarters, Shri Madan Lal, ADGP, Security, Shri K.Rajendra Kumar, IGP, Headquarters, Shri P.L.Gupta, IGP, Modernisation, PHQ, Shri S.S.Bijral, IGP Headquarters, CID, Shri A.R.Khan, IGP, Traffic, Shri Navin Agarwal, IGP, HG/CD and Auxiliary Police, Shri J.A.Makhdoomi, IGP, Kashmir Zone, Shri Farooq Ahmad, DIG, Administration, PHQ, Shri S.H.Kanth, AIG(P) and Shri Aftab Ahmad Kakroo, AIG(P&W) received the Director General of Police.

With a view to ensuring that the staff had the proper working conditions and the infrastructure available, the Director General of Police had a round of all the branches of Police Headquarters. He enquired from the police personnel about the availability of residential accommodation and other necessities.

The Director General of Police had an interaction with the senior officers and the staff members. He lauded the efforts of all ranks for putting in best efforts during the transit days in opening the records on time for making all branches functional on the very first day of the opening of darbar. He impressed upon the senior officers and other ranks to strengthen the grievance redressal mechanism and attend to the problems of the people promptly.

The DGP visited the Zonal Police Headquarters and had a brief interaction with senior police officer there.

Shri J.A.Makhdoomi, IGP, Kashmir Zone gave a brief resume of the functioning of Police in Kashmir Division.

MAKING POLICE TECHNO SAVVY

SK Police Academy designing training programmes to tackle new challenges confronting J&K Police.
Newer challenges, confronting the police in the state, have necessiated imparting advance-training skills to the men of J&K Police. New subjects including `policing the environment' and `Techno Busting' have been added to the Syllabi of training at Sher-e-Kashmir Police Academy Udhampur. A batch of 34 police officers were imparted training in identifying and tracking down the invisible enemy through a mobile phone call , during the month of May 2005.

A day-long Civil Defence Awareness Camp was organized at Ompora (Budgam) by J&K Civil Defence Organisation on May 21.A large number of Civil defence volunteers and students participated in the camp. Shri Navin Agarwal, IGP, Home Guards/Civil Defence and Auxiliary Police was the Chief Guest on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, Shri Navin Agarwal dwelt on the role and responsibility of Civil Defence Organisation in providing relief and help to the needy in emergent situations like flood, fire, earthquakes and other natural and man-made calamities/disasters. A mock drill for rescuing the trapped persons was also conducted on the occasion.

 A `Civil Defence Wardens Meet' was held at Jammu on May 21.The meet was attended by over 450 Wardens. The meet was presided over by Shri Gulzar Singh Salathia, DIG, HG/CD and Auxiliary police, Jammu. Shri Mukesh Singh SSP, Jammu, Shri S.A. Watali, SSP, Traffic, Jammu, Shri S.M.khatotra, Divisional Commandant, HG/CD and Shri Jugal Mahajan, Chief warden were among the prominent who attended the meet.

An award giving function was held at Regional Civil Defence Headquarters, Srinagar on May 12. Sh. Navin Agarwal, IGP, Home Guards/Civil Defence and Auxiliary Police distributed the awards among the Civil Defence volunteers.

Shri Nasir Ahmed, Dy. SP (left) & SI Rajesh Anand (Right) of J&K Police represented India in 11th Asian Roller Skating Championship, held in South Korea from May 10-15. Indian Team clinched 10 medals including 02 Silver and o8 Bronze in the said Championship.

 

TRIBUTE TO MARTYRS
In memory of Martyr Devinder Sharma, Late Dy.SP and Martyr Jagtar Singh, Late Dy.SP, Police Martyrs Memorial Cricket tournament started from May 20. Shri Jhony William, SSP, Kathua declared open the tournament at kathua.
FAREWELL ACCORDED

A warm farewell was accorded to Shri V.K.Ghai, DIG, CID (CI) Jammu, on his attaining age of superannuation at Srinagar. DGP J&K, ADGP CID, J&K and other senior officers attended the farewell party. He was given a warm send off by all ranks of CID (Special Branch & CI) at Jammu. Shri Nisar Ahmad SSP, CID (SB), Jammu presented a retirement gift to Shri V.K. Ghai.

CRIME FRONT

  • Kathua Police solved a blind murder case of a bus conductor, who was murdered on April 27. Three person involved in the murder were arrested in the case. While giving details of the case to media on May, o4, Shri Jhony William, SSP, Kathua lauded the efforts of SDPO Hira Nagar and SHO Hira Nagar in solving the blind murder case.

  • Sumbal police (Kashmir valley) took into custody two persons from whose possession 80 Kgs Chars was recovered on May 09.A case under FIR No.90/05 under section 8/20 has been registered against the arrested persons.

  • Three persons including a trucker were arrested on May 12, after recovering 25 Kgs of Chars from their possession in Chand Nagar area of Jammu City

  •  Kathua police recovered Indian currency worth lakhs of rupees, three rifles, one pistol and a wireless set in two different operation on May 08.

  • In its relentless drive against violators of MV Act, Traffic Police, Jammu challaned a record number12962        vehicles and realized fine money to the tune of Rs.7, 55,230. from March 01 to May 12.

 

11 PROSECUTING OFFICERS PROMOTED

State Government promoted 11 Prosecuting Officers on May 18. Smt.Gurdev Kour, Shri Ali Mohd Dar Shri Farooq Ahmed, Shri Kewal Krishan Sahni and Shri Farooq Ahmed were promoted as Dy. Directors while S/Shri B.A.Shah, M.A.Shan, Peer Gh. Mohd, Mohd Ashraf Pandit, S.A. Kapoor and Gowhar Mohd Mir were promoted as Chief Prosecuting Officers.
