CRIMINAL INVESTIGATION DEPARTMENT GOVT. OF J&K

 CITIZEN’S CHARTER

WORKING OF CID

Criminal Investigation Department is headed by Director General of Police CID J&K. There are five sub-units of CID i.e Special Branch Kashmir/Jammu, Counter Intelligence Kashmir/Jammu and CID Cell Delhi. Each unit is headed by a Supdt. of Police. The functions of CID HQ and its subordinate units are as under:-

CID HEADQUARTER

CID HQ moves to Jammu/Srinagar at the annual Darbar move. A few important functions of the CID HQ related to the citizens are as under:-

VERIFICATIONS

Verification of character and antecedents in respect of service matters, Passport, LOC Permit, Haj, National Status and other miscellaneous verifications are being received from the concerned departments at the CID Hqrs. These cases are forwarded to SSP CID SB Jammu/Kashmir and concerned District SSP for conducting the field verifications. SSP CID SB Kashmir/Jammu forwards the same to concerned Dy.SP SB. Thereafter Dy.SP SB get the verification conducted by concerned CID SB Sector Officer.

The concerned Sector Officer makes the enquiry viz-a-viz the applicant’s character and antecedents with regard to his involvement in militancy/criminal activities if any, from the people living in that locality and also checks from his own office record. The case thereafter is sent back to CID Hqrs. through the same channel. In the same manner concerned District SSPs get the verification conducted through local police Station regarding involvement in any criminal activity and after receiving the report the same is forwarded to CID Hqrs. by the concerned District SSP.

Final clearance report is issued from CID Hqrs. on the basis of field reports and index check.

All the process of above verification is computerized at CID Hqrs. and information is being made available for general public at Computerized Help Site established at Jammu/ Srinagar and on personal enquiry as well as on telephone NO.2560871 at Jammu and telephone NO.2459935 at Srinagar.

Public hearing is conducted on all working days at CID Hqrs. from 1400 hours to 1600 hours where public can meet any officer of CID HQ including DGP CID J&K for redressal of their grievances.

FOREIGNERS REGISTRATION

There are three Foreigners Registration offices (FROs) i.e SSP CID SB Jammu, SSP CID SB Kashmir and SSP Leh under the overall control of CID HQ. A Pak National has to report within 24 hours after arrival while-as other Foreigners have to report within 14 days after arrival to FRO for registration. 
 

SPECIAL BRANCH CID J&K

Special Branch Kashmir/Jammu is dealing with collection, collation and dissemination of intelligence relating to political and other counts to maintain the surveillance over the undesirable elements etc. besides conducting the verification of Service, Passport, threat perception, VISA clearance, NORI, migration relief cases and other allied verifications.

COUNTER INTELLIGENCE CID J&K

Counter Intelligence Kashmir/Jammu is basically an anti-militancy setup dealing with the collection of intelligence by all possible means to counter the threat of anti-national, subversion, espionage, sabotage and smuggling of contrabands.

CID CELL DELHI

CID Cell Delhi is   responsible for liaison work with Government of India and collection of intelligence having bearing on law and order, security and terrorist activity.
